The
US House of Representatives has unanimously passed a resolution (H.
Con. Res. 225) encouraging Americans to fly the national flag. The
resolution expresses the sense of the Congress that, as a symbol of
solidarity following the terrorist attacks on the United States on
September 11, 2001, every United States citizen is encouraged to
display the flag of the United States.
"You will be sending a strong signal to millions of people here at
home and abroad that the red, white and blue represents freedom and
democracy, and those ideals will live on," said House Speaker Dennis
Hastert.
Rep. Ike Skelton, D-MO., said the symbolic action would demonstrate
to the world that "we will not be daunted." |
